Shutterbugs with green thumbs are in luck. With a little work it's possible to bring the magic of butterflies and hummingbirds to your garden. Just select the right plants--butterflies like bright colors while hummingbirds and butterflies both like blooms with plenty of nectar. Is there a more perfect way to hone your nature photography skills while also getting some great photos for your collection?

I was recently on Ocracoke Island in North Carolina. This island marks the southern most end of what is called the Outer Banks. The busiest part of the island happens to be around a fairly good sized harbor. And where there's a harbor there are harbor birds.

If you like birds, whether to take pictures or to just observe, I highly recommend a trip to the Florida Everglades. The proximity to the coast, mix of fresh and salt water, and lots of brush make it an ideal place for many types of birds.

Birds are fun picture subjects. And those in flight are a challenge for photographers. A lot of variables have to come together including enough light for a fast shutter; a lens and camera that can focus quickly and constantly; and the ability to pan the camera to match the bird's flight path.

I like birds of prey more than any other class of birds. I think in large part that's because they're bigger than most other birds. And it doesn't hurt that they have that air of power that comes with having sharp beaks and long talons.
